The past twelve weeks have been my second semester of my first year of university. What can you really learn in twelve short weeks though? From my experience the answer is… A lot. Thirteen weeks ago I had no idea what web 2.0 was, I never really considered any of the reasons how or why technology is the way that it is. Technology has always been there though my life and I have always taken it for granted. I believe that before this semester I was somewhat of a technological determinist, I saw one technology leading into the next not to serve society but just because thats what happened. These few weeks have taught me so much and i’m happy to say have gave me a better understanding of human relationship with technology. Each new technological advancement is made to help societies grow, to assist people through their everyday lives. I myself am now a social determinist.
I am excited for the future of the internet. For web 2.0 to eventually develop into One web would be phenomenal for people around the globe! To get to this stage though, i believe we would need to first embrase the lifestyles of the remix and open source software. From my point of view this is the fastest way to assist each other in creating something great. Instead of deterring pirates of what they do we instead need to reward them for helping to increase our innovation. The internet is a marvellous way for all humans to keep connected with each other from any point on the globe. I would easily be able to argue why i believe the internet is the most important invention ever created by man.
